Backup Database
Help Table of Contents Restore Database
All of your customer information, order information, and product information is stored in a MySql database. The Backup
Database feature allows you to set up automatic database backups so that if your computer crashes, gets a harmful virus, etc.
you will have your data safely backed up and you can easily restore the data into the database after fixing your computer's
problem.
The Backup Database feature is located by selecting the menu item Settings
under the main menu item Configuration. Once the Configuration Settings
panel is displayed, you will see the Backup/Restore Tab to the far right side of
the panel. Click the Backup/Restore Tab. You will now see the Backup
Database Tab. The first option at the top of this panel is a checkbox for
"Automatic Database Backups Enabled". Clicking this checkbox will turn on
automatic backups of your MySql database. The default Backup interval is
daily, after midnight.
You must choose a "Backup Directory Path". This is the directory or folder in which the Backup Database file will be placed
when the Backup Database program is run. It is important to choose a directory or folder on a drive that is not the same drive
currently used for your MySql database. For example, I personally have an Iomega external hard disk drive which I use to store
my database backups. This way if my hard drive which contains my business MySql database dies, I will have my entire database
safely backed up on a completely separate hard drive.
The "Browse..." button at the end of the "Backup Directory Path" data entry
field allows you to browse for and select your Backup Directory Path. You may
choose a Database Backup Interval of daily or weekly. If you choose daily,
you may also select an hour of the day in which you want the backup to be saved.
If you choose weekly backups, a list box for the day of the week will appear.
You may choose a day of the week for backup or just keep the default day of
Sunday. The "Backup Database Now" button allows you to immediately backup the
current contents of the database to your backup directory path. The last
field, "Last Backup Date" will show the last Date and Time in which your MySql
business database was backed up. This field is only a display field and
cannot be typed in. The last and very important step after choosing your
Database Backup options is to click the "Save" button. This saves your
selections.
