Quick Start - Setup Wizard and Installation Settings

Help Table of Contents

During the installation of the Silverthorne Shipping Saver, a setup wizard will take you through several Tabs where you will personalize the configuration settings for your business. The first screen displayed by the Setup Wizard is the User Accounts Tab.

User Accounts Tab

The User Accounts Tab is shown in the screen shot below.  The MySql username field should be set to root.  It is important to enter the same password as you entered during this setup step of MySql.   You should set the database location field to localhost if MySql was installed on this computer.  If MySql is installed on a different computer, you should enter the IP address of the other computer into the DB location field.  The MySql password and database location are the only fields that must be filled in during initial setup.   After entering the MySql password and database location click the Test database connection button. If the MySql password is entered correctly, you should receive the "Connection OK" message shown below.

If the database location was set to localhost, upon clicking the Test database connection button, the database will be loaded with data needed by the Shipping Saver application and then the application will close.

Restart the Shipping Saver application.

Business Info Tab

The setup wizard will take you to the Business Info Tab shown in the screen shot below.  This is where you will enter the information about your business.  All fields are required to be filled in except the fields marked optional.  Your logo graphic file name is the name of a file containing your company logo that will be printed on receipts, invoices, and business reports.  The logo file is optional and can be entered at a later time.  A sample logo.jpg file is supplied in the shipping saver application directory.  Your logo image should be roughly the same size as the sample file (80x140 pixels).  If you do not yet have a logo file, just leave the field blank.  Another optional field is the Suite or Floor field.  If there is no suite or floor in your business address, just leave this field blank.  Once you have filled in the fields for the Business Info Tab, click the "Next >" button to continue.

The screen shot below shows sample business information.

Once you have filled in the fields with the information for your business, click the "Next >" button to continue.

Hardware Settings Tab

The setup wizard will take you to the Hardware Settings Tab shown in the screen shot below. This is where you will specify which type of digital shipping scale you have.  A digital shipping scale is not required.  If you have a digital shipping scale, choose your scale type in the scale type drop down list.  Then choose the scale port in the scale port drop down list.  You will also select your thermal printer name if you have a thermal printer.

Please also see specific instructions for the hardware settings tab.

The workstation name is a required field.  You may leave this field with the default value of workstation1.  The workstation name is used on the Reports tab so you can see how many packages are being shipped by each workstation.

Once the settings listed above are set, click the "Next >" button to continue.

UPS Account Settings

The setup wizard will take you to the UPS Account Settings Tab. To ship with UPS, you will need to create a UPS account by visiting the UPS website at www.ups.com if you do not already have a UPS account.

Once you have a UPS account number, enter it in the Account number field for UPS as shown in the screen shot below. Now click the Register button to register your UPS account with UPS OnLine® Tools.

The first screen of the UPS OnLine® Tools License and Registration Wizard will be displayed as shown below.

Click the Next > button to continue. The UPS technology agreement will be displayed as shown below.

Read the entire agreement by slowly scrolling the vertical scroll bar downward.

Click Yes to accept the UPS terms and conditions. Then click the Next > button to continue.

The next screen in the UPS OnLine® Tools License and Registration Wizard will be displayed as shown above. Enter your Job Title. UPS collects job title information so it will know how to best help you during any correspondence. It is also recommended that you enter a few words in the UPS Account Detail field. This field is optional but will make it easy to remember what your UPS account should be used for if you have more than one UPS account. For example, a company could have a UPS account number that should be used just by the accounting department as shown in the example above.

Now click the Finish button. The final screen in the the UPS OnLine® Tools License and Registration Wizard will be displayed as shown below.

Click the Close button. Your registration with UPS is now complete.

You will now see the UPS account listed that you registered with UPS OnLine® Tools. You can register additional UPS account numbers with the UPS OnLine® Tools, by entering the additional UPS account number in the field shown above and then clicking the Register button. If you have no additional UPS account numbers to register, click the Cancel button to close the Setup Wizard. You can now start printing shipping labels immediately.
