Installing MySql- Standard Configuration

Help Table of Contents | Step 2) Installing Java Runtime Environment | Step 4) Installing Silverthorne Shipping Saver

If MySql is not already installed on your computer, you will need to download MySql Community Server. It is FREE.  The MySql download page shown in the screen shot below is marked by a red arrow showing what you should download.

When installing MySql, You will be given a choice of a standard configuration setup or a detailed configuration setup.  The standard configuration setup has less steps and is good choice if you will run the shipping software on the same computer as MySql.  Some companies may have a dedicated computer just to run MySql and will want to choose the detailed configuration setup.  The detailed configuration setup allows you to fine tune the database to handle a larger amount of users and database transactions.  Having a separate computer dedicated to running MySql is optional and not necessary for all companies.  Most small sized companies will run MySql on the same computer as the Silverthorne shipping software.  Companies that will ship very many packages and will have many shipping stations, will probably need the detailed configuration. The screen shots below outline the standard installation and setup.  Following the screen shots will help you to make the right choices during the setup of MySql.

Standard MySql Installation and Configuration Setup

It is very important to remember or write down in a safe place, the password entered below.  During the configuration of the Silverthorne Shipping application, you will need to enter this same password again and it must match the password that you enter during this step.

That's all there is to installing MySql.  Next, proceed to installing Java instructions.
